A blockbuster in today’s News & Observer: Former Gov. Mike Easley’s general counsel Ruffin Poole greased the skids with state environmental regulators for the Allen brothers (developers of Cannonsgate) to get permits for the development.

Separately, new records and interviews show that Randy Allen offered a discounted lot to a relative of a regulator who issued a crucial permit.
Poole is scheduled to testify before the State Board of Elections at 4 p.m. today.
