Should one be amused at rationalizations for political maneuvers? One of nine public input video conferences was hosted at Appalachian State College in Boone. The purpose was to solicit feedback on the proposed NC redistricting map. Many people stepped forward to give voice to the minorities who would be injured by the map. One man claimed the new lines would allow his congressman, Patrick McHenry, to tap Charlotte financial institutions for campaign funds. At least a couple feared the consequences of dividing counties. One lady exclaimed, “You have robbed us of our natural allies.”
