What the hell is this mess? What in the world makes the NC General Assembly think it is remotely qualified to “fight obesity” in pre-school kids?

I get the locus clearly enough. The state licenses day care facilities, hence the state thinks it would be great to micro-manage what kids eat inside those facilities. Let’s just cut to the chase.

Let’s license parents. If at least one of the parents does not have a full-time job (and you need to be able to name the father) and at least one of them must have a HS diploma or GED, you don’t get a parenting license. No license and the kid becomes a ward of the state. Kinda cuts out the day care middle-man, don’t cha think? I’d even throw in a requirement that the parents are married given the demonstrated negative consequences of out-of-wedlock births, but we’ll let that slide. For now.

If you really, truly believe the solution to bad parenting is more government, you better have to the guts to pre-emptively outlaw bad parents. Otherwise take your nanny-state ninnery and get thee to a nunnery.
