In this Cato@Liberty post, Chris Edwards offers some words of praise for Senator Ted Cruz. He draws an analogy between the British Navy (which often won battles where the enemy had more ships, by the use of daring tactics) and the need for the GOP to fight Obamacare with unconventional methods.
One thing that Cruz did in his lengthy speech was to zoom in on the many features of Obamacare, both actual provisions and the unintended consequences of those provisions, that are going to damage the ability of Americans to get the medical treatment they need. Doing that undermines the support for the law among people who “like it” but don’t have any idea what it will actually do. Most of those people “like” Obamacare simply because they’ve heard people they trust say that it will do good things. They focus only on the nice-sounding intentions, not on realities.
Lots of Russians liked the idea of communism when Lenin told them it would mean an end to hunger. We’re in much the same situation with the “Affordable Care Act.”
