The Buncombe County Commissioners are getting a lot of heat for two recent decisions wherein they ruled the zoning ordinances were more important than families’ wishes to set up a mobile home for their kids on their property. Now, common-taters are not impressed that the local daily has printed an article sharing the commissioners’ desire to increase affordable housing in the county. This has long been a stated goal, but the update is that the county, for fear of legal challenges, is no longer considering an inclusionary zoning policy. It is leaning more toward tax and fee breaks and loans.
