I just returned from a trip to Home Depot where, despite the gloom and doom about the economy and lack of jobs, the place is bustling with contractors buying materials. On the way, I was behind a van with the following bumper sticker displayed — just below the Obama/Biden sticker:

The Emperor Has No Brains

This message, which I find offensive, was accompanied by a picture of George W. Bush.

In light of the fact that UNC’s Thought Police appear ready to recommend that UNC President Erskine Bowles adopt a speech/conduct code for all campuses, I’m just wondering what punishment this person will incur if the restriction on speech is implemented and this person drives the vehicle and its offensive sticker onto a UNC campus.

I am highly offended by the message. Therefore, would this bumper sticker constitute a hate crime?

One thing’s for sure. The owner should avoid NC State’s campus. Chancellor James Oblinger says they have “a standard for uses of free speech” there.
