Swain County is beginning to see proceeds from the North Shore Road settlement. $12.8 million of the $52 million settlement has arrived, but the commissioners don’t know what to do with it. One novel idea was to create a committee to decide. So far, $12,500 of the interest on the lump sum has gone toward erecting five granite monuments. One is dedicated to the history of North Shore Road, now flooded by the Fontana Dam.
