Veteran GOP strategist Carter Wrenn has praise for former Clinton White House staffer Erskine Bowles:
There’s been some grumbling by professors who say he’s trying to run a university like a business. And from the governor. But, right now, it looks like Erskine Bowles’ not getting elected to the United States Senate may be the best thing that’s happened to higher education in North Carolina in years.
It is certainly true with regard to Chambergate that no one associated with UNCC or the UNC system took complaints about the transit study’s origins seriously until Bowles was contacted and initiated a response.
Of course, much has to play out both on the accountability front and on the budgetary front for Bowles to maintain all his early high marks.
