N.C. House Speaker Joe Hackney just announced that Rep. Thomas Wright, D-New Hanover, will face an investigation from a new select committee. That committee will investigate the activity that led to criminal charges against Wright.
The six House members of the Legislative Ethics Commission will likely form that new select committee. Hackney says the existing Legislative Ethics Commission decided it did not have jurisdiction to investigate the activity that led to criminal charges.
Hackney says the existing commission will proceed with its own investigation of Wright. He says the commission is proceeding to hearings and will issue subpoenas.
