Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school board member Elisabeth Motsinger has filed paperwork to make a run for the 5th Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. Virginia Foxx.

Motsinger made news back in September when she and her husband were among 1,000-plus arrested for demonstrating outside the White House in protest of the proposed Keystone pipeline. Motsinger also opposed a education budget seminar sponsored by the Civitas Institute, saying –according to Yes! Weekly — the “focus of Civitas is to provide an inexpensive education, not an excellent education.”

One other Democratic candidate has filed to run —-Wilkes County Democratic party chairwoman Treva Johnson.
