Wiley Middle School teacher Jason Ford —- who was the focus of an investigation into allegations of improper misconduct —- has been cleared after police determined that students made up the allegations.

What I don’t understand is the timeline of the investigation. The allegations were made back in May, which is when Winston-Salem police took over the investigation. Yet Ford wasn’t suspended until earlier this month, when the SBI came in to investigate charges that school officials weren’t reporting allegations of criminal wrongdoing in schools to law enforcement officials. The SBI’s investigation has resulted in the suspension of school attorney Drew Davis.

I’m glad Ford is in the clear, though his reputation has been damaged in the process. Too bad that had to happen in the process of exposing something very wrong within the school system.
