Today’s Wall Street Journal has an excellent editorial on the hysteria that McCain has stirred up on the left by choosing Sarah Palin.
I wouldn’t bet my old golf clubs on this, but I have a hunch that Palin could become our Margaret Thatcher. Maybe Palin hasn’t read Hayek as Thatcher did, but that isn’t essential. The big points of comparison are that Palin seems to combine toughness and devotion to limited government principles the way Thatcher did. To political insiders, possibility that a woman who can articulate the case against the ever-expanding megastate that they love might one day lead the wimpy GOP is an utterly horrifying prospect.
