Tasers sure are in the news a lot these days, as the Winston-Salem Police Department has just made public its Taser policy.

Highlights include:

*Officers must “think” before using a Taser;

*Officers should avoid firing probes to a subject’s head, neck and genital areas;

*Officers shouldn’t use a Taser when perps and prisoners are near flammable or explosive material;

*Be careful when using a Taser on pregant women;

*No drive stunning, meaning no pressing the Taser directly against the body.

*Last but not least, officers undergoing Taser training must themselves get a jolt, just to see what it feels like.

Gut reaction —–as most recently evidenced by this morning’s story about 20-year-old UNC student Courtland Smith —– cops shoot people, too. So does that mean that cops should get shot as part of their training, just so they know what that feels like. too?
