Yadkin County Sheriff Mike Cain’s office was cleaned out over the weekend. Cain hasn’t officially resigned, but no one seems to know where he is. The SBI is investigating Cain, but it’s not clear exactly what they’re investigating. A good guess might be the lease of three Harley Davidson motorcycles:
The previous summer, the sheriff had addressed rumors that were going around after residents saw high-ranking officers riding the motorcycles.
“We bought them, they’re ours,” he told the weekly Yadkin Ripple in a front-page story published July 9, 2009. “We make the payments, we pay for the insurance and we drive them when we want to.”
County commissioners have called a special meeting Wednesday morning meeting to “discuss the filling of a possible vacant position in a county office and to conduct a closed session to discuss legal and personnel matters.”
