Pat Yasinskas left the Charlotte Observer recently and took a gig writing for espn.com. In the transition, Yaz seems to have been allowed to be both more informative and opinionated in what he reports. Consider this recent blog post about the possibility that Kris Jenkins might be traded or cut:

Jenkins has made it clear he’s not a big fan of living in Charlotte and the team’s not crazy about a guy who marches to his own music and doesn’t act like one of coach John Fox’s robots.

Don’t remember him writing anything that blunt or useful while with the O. And that’s exactly what’s wrong with the paper’s sports coverage in general.

Bonus Observation: Whether Jenkins stays or goes, the Panthers need to take a defensive tackle by the fourth round of the draft. Jenkins, who turns 29 before the season starts, is the youngest of the four DTs the Panthers had last year in their regular rotation.
