The Charlotte Observer and News & Observer have both published an editorial seeking to apply a statement I made in another context, “when there is a market for a certain type of employee, it probably makes sense for a government to use market-based pay,” to the issue of paying public school teachers.

Charlotte Observer headline: Time to pay North Carolina’s teachers the market rate

News & Observer headline: Time to pay North Carolina’s teachers the market rate

This reminds me of a Carolina Journal Online headline from July 17: Pay Teachers A Market Wage

It’s nice to see the state’s largest newspapers accepting the value of market forces, rather than endorsing the education establishment’s continued push for an antiquated system of across-the-board pay raises for teachers regardless of skill levels, demonstrated productivity, or relative market demand for their particular skill sets.
