No real surprise that Yes!Weekly endorses Greensboro City Council member Robbie Perkins over former council member Tom Phillips and incumbent Bill Knight for mayor in next week’s primary.

I have to admit, however, I’m confused about the liberal alt-weekly’s definition of ‘pure principle’:

..Knight has basically been incommunicado with our paper since he took office two years ago; he ditched our candidate interview request as well as the News & Record’s news and editorial board interview invitations, and has been conspicuously absent thus far in forums and debates. Let’s be real: There is no way this guy would get our endorsement on pure principle, regardless of his votes and views, many of which we also disagree with.

I give them credit for at least being honest, which is less than you can say for, oh I don’t know—-99 percent—- of liberal media. (For some reason that figure popped into my head.)

Meanwhile, the Rhino endorses Knight, in spite of the fact that he’s like “watching a person play tennis who learned to play in their 50s. They can practice all they want but they are never going to move with the grace and purpose of someone who was out on the court when the racket looked bigger than they were.”

I’ve had my issues with Knight; but the Rhino reminds us that a City Council under the leadership of Perkins or Phillips would be business as usual. John Hammer is also careful to remind us of Phillips’ support for former City Manager Mitchell Johnson, who locked then Police Chief David Wray out of his office on the basis of a questionable consultants’ report alleging racism.
