What do you think of historic surveys? For one thing, if something is that historic, people would probably know it’s there. If the object is to come up with a uniform means of “interpretation,” I ask how many people do you ever see interacting with those historic signs and pedestals? I’ve stopped to read a couple, but I don’t think I’ve seen anybody else do it. Signs are signs, and were they private-sector, they would obsturb viewshed, blocking up the scenery, breaking my mind, but I guess they add historicity if we stretch our imagination. In these days of unmarked streets and missing highway signs, shouldn’t our historic tours be all in the Smartphones anyway?
