According to the Denver Post, organizers for the Democratic National Convention are giving caterers very specific guidelines:

There will be no fried food.
Meals should be three of five specified colors.
Food should be organic, locally grown, or both.
Tableware should be reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

Vendors respond that “organic” doubles the price, Colorado’s growing season is short so many things will be unavailable locally, one of the five colors = blueberries and nothing else, and the magical compostable tableware is brought on slow (globally warming) boats from China — and composters aren’t on board to deal with it yet anyway.

How utterly emblematic of the whole – overpriced, unavailable, disorganized, and ultimately destructive of their own fetishes. But oh, so symbolic.
