A stakeholder input meeting was hosted by the Town of Boone. Special interest experts want to create more community by making a couple downtown streets one-way and pedestrian-friendly with street trees, street furniture, and storefronts for pedestrian interaction. That is because if you are quadrupling your commute time to go by foot, you have all the time in the world to engage in storefronts. If you cannot afford a car, you definitely want to go inside the stores and buy things. Making driving a nasty prospect will also help make downtown Boone a destination. One real estate broker suggested the one-way streets could be completed in such a way that the town would provide incentives for businesses to locate where leaders want them to go. Several citizens who showed up thought the changes would impose inconveniences.
