Buncombe County Manager Wanda Green seems to think it is more economical to make sheriff’s deputies need a taxpayer-funded COLA so they can buy and maintain a car, and buy extra gas for extra trips to avoid taking care of personal errands and business in the same trip – than to let them drive county vehicles, maintained and fueled on the cheap through county discounts. Maybe deputies could moonlight for car money so they can report fresh as a daisy to work the next day. No doubt, a program to give criminals tax dollars to take their kids to school would gain more traction.
