Howard Dean responded to the capture of Saddam Hussein with a “major” foreign-policy speech on Monday. So did Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, John Kerry, and Joe Lieberman. Dean was, to put it mildly, outside the bounds of what would normally be considered political adoitness.
Basically, expect to hear these words again, and again, from Dean’s Democratic rivals and from the Bush campaign should Dean survive the pummeling:
“The capture of Saddam has not made America safer.”
And Dean said he would have supported action in Iraq had “the United Nations given us permission.”
Whoa, Nelly!
