A survey by the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement has found “a higher-than-expected level of political and community engagement among Americans ages 15 to 25.” That might sound like good news until you read a disturbing finding about this group:

In a test of political knowledge, 56 percent of youths did not know that only U.S. citizens could vote in elections. Only 30 percent could name a single member of President Bush’s Cabinet.

This means that Jay Leno’s clueless-man-on-the-street interviews may, sadly, be more representative than anyone thought.
