Your characterization of the Ronnie Van Zant/Neil Young relationship is correct. I made no reference to that relationship because it had no bearing on the discussion.

The point of my post was that it’s not unprecedented for Neil Young to turn to his past (“Harvest”/”Harvest Moon”) in creating his new music, nor is it unprecedented for his more pointed political references to generate some heat (the aforementioned “Sweet Home Alabama” lyric).

Maybe we can have some other debates on the intriguing mysteries of rock & roll.  For example, what would John Locke think of the line “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose”?
