If Guilford County commissioners freeze funding for school construction, 12 major projects on the 2008 bond referendum would be delayed, according to a Rhino analysis.

The biggest project on that list is the $29 million project to expand Ragsdale and combine it with the old Jamestown Middle School into a larger school. The possibility of that project being delayed yet again —- remember it was originally on on 2003 school bond passed by voters —–prompted this colorful quote from school board member Paul Daniels:

“You remember that scene in Young Frankenstein where the people find out the monster is in the castle, and they come out with pitchforks and torches?” Daniels said. “We’re not far from that. I say that jokingly, but I think the people at Ragsdale have a legitimate beef. Why do the people at Ragsdale always get their projects put off?”

The new $72 million high school near Piedmont Triad International Airport would also be delayed, but the school system has had trouble finding land for that project.
