Update: Alley is put on administrative leave.

Greensboro ABC general manager Katie Alley—who’s under scrutiny for allegedly accepting gifts from liquor companies —- says “(b)y tapping Alley for its top leadership post, the Association of ABC Boards seems to be sending a message that it endorses business as usual and doesn’t care much for oversight from Raleigh.” No kidding.

Meanwhile, a couple of letter writers in today’s edition weigh in on ABC. Greensboro’s Bruce Caldwell says “ABC system is unnecessary… Liquor sold through grocery stores would still be taxed by the state. No revenues need be lost, while Bob Isner says “current controversies with the local operation of the ABC Board, coupled with what may be larger problems with other local boards in the state, bring into light the role and size of government.”

It just so happens that the John Locke Foundation has released its roadmap to freedom, otherwise known as its Agenda 2010 Policy Report. ABC reform is part of that agenda.
