Still waiting for larger play on a couple breaking corruption stories:

  • Gov. Mike Whatshisname has failed to report at least $200K in in-kind campaign contributions, namely freebie private air service from a cadre of close supporters, including several the Gub has appointed to positions of great power in state government. Think that there might be a bit of a story there? Even better, does it make you wonder if other powerful state pols have received similar perks? Not if you run a major newspaper in North Carolina.
  • Powerful Columbus County State Sen. R.C. Soles — who is in his 40th year in the General Assembly — may be the subject of a federal investigation in Raleigh, according to a Wilmington TV station. Three people claim to have been subpoenaed to testify. Soles, an attorney, has repeatedly told reporters he knows nothing about any such probe.

Looks like we have another Jim Black-John Edwards news blackout in full-effect. Expect the long-winded columns outlining why it was impossible to cover these stories with the full investigative force of the Fourth Estate long about November 5th.

Bonus Observation: So Bev Perdue comes to the QC to meet with one of the local Demo groups which defended Speaker Black to the bitter end and says, “Get ready, get ready, there’s a new sheriff coming to Dodge.” The irony is delish, but does anything this woman says ever make sense? I’m serious. I think she is learning disabled, just like the current governor.
