Hitting the high notes:

  • Inking Chris Gamble is huge for the Panthers. The guy has played extremely well this season, a season in which he has stayed healthy. That is the key. When healthy, Gamble is a top flight corner, one who’d take a first-rounder to replace. With no 1st round pick next year, losing him to free agency was not an option.
  • But pay no attention to assumptions that the Panthers need to do Jordan Gross next. Gross is a nice starting tackle, but losing him would not be the end of the world. When push comes to shove, a Gross is much more replaceable than a Gamble.
  • Tom Knotts and Indy are on a mission. The mission is nothing less than embarrass the CMS braintrust which hounded his program over the summer, searching for imagined “recruiting” violations. The Patriots 49-7 destruction of Butler was step one. The next step is a state title. Oh, and isn’t about time that local football fans realize that Butler is chronically overrated?
  • dook-Carolina today is actually a huge football game for both programs. Wonder of wonders.
  • Lane Kiffin is a horrible hire in Knoxville. A combo of Nick Saban/Butch Davis envy drove the Vols to a West Coast guy without proper skill set to succeed in the SEC. Kiffin has never been a college HC.
  • Wouldn’t it be hysterical if Notre Dame rose up and beat USC? Won’t happen though.
  • Happy football weekend!
