In addition to their other financial troubles, High Point City Council member Foster Douglas and Mayor Bernita Sims “face garnishment of their city wages for unpaid income taxes going back several years in unrelated cases,” according to the High Point Enterprise:

The state actions targeting the unpaid taxes of Douglas and Sims are the latest financial-related revelations about each of them.

Last week, Douglas was served with court papers related to more than $32,000 he owes the city stemming from the 2003 dismissal of a federal lawsuit he brought against the city.

Sims was delinquent for $538.78 in city utility bills for her former residence for billing cycles between August 2012 and December 2012. She paid the balance off last month after the Enterprise reported the delinquencies.

Both Douglas and Sims face garnishment of their council salaries as a result of their tax bills. Interesting also the HPE didn’t mention the SBI probe into allegations that Sims passed a worthless check to her sister, which as far as I know is still ongoing.
