Newport News Daily Press, a Tribune paper, is first up with 14 layoffs.

Next with 27 layoffs we have the San Diego Union-Tribune, continuing a trend which saw an additional 100-plus jobs eliminated or outsourced in recent weeks.

Finally, McClatchy’s Kansas City outpost, the Star checks in with 24 “voluntary” buy-outs. The paper stressed that the latest cuts were not done on the orders of McClatchy HQ, which is known to be searching for cost-savings.

Plus the day after Moody’s cut McClatchy’s credit rating due to lower revenues, McClatchy announces a deal with Spanish-language publisher ImpreMedia. The goal is an online and print ad alliance.

Hmmm. Remember this.
