Up $40 million from the failed $427 million offer of 2005 and, of course, less weighted towards the suburbs than CMS superintendent Peter Gorman initially suggested.
Gorman went back and added about $50 million in renovation work from the 05 package, lowering the new school construction component of the currrent package to about 75 percent, down from about 80 percent.
Is that enough?
I still go back to the fact that the 05 package was heavily weighted towards South Meck, and South Meck voters still smacked it down. Bond votes are about specific projects, yes, but they are also referenda on the direction of a school system.
In November 05 CMS got a strong vote of no confidence from the community that funds the system. Has Gorman made enough changes in that system to win back public confidence? I really do not know.
And neither does anyone else.
