Last year, the state legislature gave county governments the privilege of offering their citizens a 0.4 % land transfer tax or a 0.25-cent sales tax increase. In November, about 70% of Henderson County voters rejected an opportunity to pay the land transfer tax. Unable to ascertain what part of no their county commissioners don’t understand, citizens will be given a chance to say yes to a quarter-cent sales tax May 6.

It seems the commissioners need money for parks and other inalienable rights to recreational infrastructure. Once these are funded, there won’t be much left for buzzwords like children and education. As one citizen commented, look out for the tax-funded propaganda known as “education.”

Note: I had heard about this tax last week, but I couldn’t find anything online about it until today. This was in the “Obituaries” portion of the Hendersonville Times-News online. Maybe the paper is editorializing.
