Davidson County Commissioners want Gov. Mike Easley to intervene and “oppose the application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission by Alcoa for a 50 year license to control the waters of the Yadkin River and its lakes and tributaries.”
Good luck, Commissioner Max Walser says, consodering the fact (if I’m reading it right) the N.C. Division of Environmental and Natural Resources has signed off on the license:
“If I thought that anything we might do would stop FERC from giving a 50-year license, I’d be willing to do that. But I do think it’s probably a day late and a bunch of dollars short,” Walser said. “I doubt that this governor is going to do anything to stop this when he has already let his … people sign on to this. I’m talking about fish and wildlife, water quality people, they’ve already signed off on this, saying ‘This is OK, go ahead to FERC.'”
I guess Easley has established himself as the ‘water governor.’
