According to some accounts, the national debt is now in excess of $12 trillion. Heath Shuler’s debt clock, however, has not yet broken the $12 trillion mark. It is, of course, understandable that the federal government would not be able to track its finances with a tolerance tighter than $10 billion. Those who attended the State Policy Network’s session on state budgets will recall there is a lot of uncertainty in tracking ARRA dollars.
It has taken only about six years to double the debt.
