Fully 32 Republican members of the House voted “yes” to nationalizing the auto industry while another 15 opted not to vote, for whatever reason. The measure passed only 237-170. You do the math.

Republicans didn’t get rolled by “liberals” — Republicans are “liberals,” if we take liberal to mean looking to state power to cure all societal ills. Perhaps in a slightly different order than Democrats would, but in fundamental principle, no difference.
