Carolina Journal reports here on last night’s winners. Here’s the outcome of the 6th and 7th districts races for Congress.

U.S. House District 6 • Phil Berger Jr. and Mark Walker will be in a July 15 runoff since neither won 40 percent of the vote in their Republican primary. They seek to succeed 15-term U.S. Rep. Howard Coble, who is retiring at the end of his present term. Berger received 10,896 votes, or 37.08 percent, to 7,152 votes, or 24.34 percent, for Walker.

There were seven other candidates in the race. Bruce VonCannon received 12.21 percent of the ballots cast (3,588); Zack Matheny, 10.44 percent (3,068); Jeff Phillips, 6.88 percent (2,022); Don Webb, 3.56 percent (1,046); Mike Causey, 3.27 percent (961); Charlie Sutherland, 1.24 percent (365); and Kenn Kopf, .97 percent (284).

• Laura Fjeld won the Democratic nomination with 13,335 votes, or 56.14 percent, versus Bruce Davis, who received 10,417 votes, or 43.86 percent.

U.S. House District 7 • David Rouzer won the Republican nomination with 20,768 votes, or 55.09 percent of the ballots cast in the district that had been represented by nine-term Democrat Mike McIntyre, who did not seek re-election. Runner-up Woody White received 38.12 percent (14,371), and Chris Andrade got 6.79 percent (2,559).

• Jonathan Barfield Jr. won the Democratic nomination with 19,554 votes, or 57.26 percent of the ballots cast. Walter Martin Jr. received 42.74 percent, or 14,597 votes.
