Democratic candidates for the 6th Congressional seat now held Rep. Howard Coble debated the issues last night in Greensboro.

Teresa Sue Bratton emerged as the centrist on healthcare, saying the U.S. “lost a number of industries in this country, and I do not want to destroy another one,” though she added that she would vote expansion of both Medicaid and SCHIP funding.

Johnny Carter has an interesting observation on the Iraq war, noting “4,000th troop death had actually been reached months ago, if one takes into account the number of suicides among troops who have returned from combat, something that highlights the need for better care of veterans.”

That said, Carter emphasized the need for a continued U.S. commitment in Iraq to help rebuild the country’s infrastructure.

Greensboro’s Jay Ovittore had an interesting view on same-sex marriages, saying not only would he vote to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, but “he would support legislation to force states to recognize civil unions from other states.”
