Greensboro’s Mark Robinson emerged as the victor in the crowded Republican primary race for lieutenant governor.
Associated Press reports:
First-time candidate Mark Robinson of Greensboro got the most votes and exceeded the 30% threshold needed to win outright and avoid a runoff.
Current state Sen. Andy Wells was second in a primary that also included current Superintendent of Public Instruction Mark Johnson, former U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers and ex-state Rep. Scott Stone. Robinson’s 2018 recorded speech before the Greensboro council went viral, making him a nationwide speaker.
What’s interesting is Robinson’s hometown newspaper–the News & Record–virtually ignores his stunning victory, at least as far as I can tell. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it has something to do with the fired-up speech on gun rights in front of the Greensboro City Council that put Robinson in the national spotlight.
