Earth Day grabbed the front-page of Friday’s Durham Herald-Sun, as the paper asked local environmental experts – including Roy Cordato – to suggest what Durham residents could do to protect the earth. Cordato encouraged people to avoid littering, respect property rights, recycle only what makes sense since it also creates pollution and chemical waste, drive a newer car to reduce emissions, and learn science before accepting advocates’ claims. Last week, the Gaston Gazette interviewed Cordato about President Bush’s Clear Skies initiative, and he argued the legislation is unnecessary. Meanwhile, the Asheville Tribune and the Hendersonville Tribune published Paul Chesser’s CJ Exclusive about the report that heavily influenced the 2002 Clean Smokestacks law. Environmental Defense wrote the report. Critics say the assumptions were based on junk science.
