In the Carolina Journal, Paul Chesser wrote an opinion piece decrying a Charlotte Observer editorial that attempted to shift the blame of the ethical violations mounting against Speaker Jim Black to the political system itself.  The piece prompted a response by Ed Williams, the editor of the Observer‘s editorial page. In it, Williams shows the typical left-leaning pessimism towards human nature, basically stating that nurture overcomes nature; and what’s worse, even our nature is deplorable. Paul intends to respond.  Regardless of what’s to blame, the recent ethics battle should have political effects, one of which involves the proposed dental school at ECU.  According to George Leef, if the vote goes to the Legislature, ethical backgrounds may influence the weight of the support offered by certain political supporters of the school.  And although few have labeled it as such, the incentives “arms race” that governments are engaged in, is an ethical dilemma. Chad Adams, in an interview with the United Kingdom’s Financial Times, using the Kia decision in Georgia and the Cuno case in Michigan, laid out the potential future problems of this dilemma.
