Medicaid
is awful
and the first anniversary of ObamaCare is a good time to talk
about reforming
the unaffordable entitlement. We offer our thoughts in a new paper.

Over at the Locker Room blog, Health Policy
Fellow Nicole Fisher and I provide ongoing analysis and interpretation of
policy news. Keep up with our posts and the health care related posts of other
Lockers with the Health Care tag.

Science changes its mind on coconut oil
There are numerous problems
with comparative effectiveness research as promoted. Too often, the results
discount variation among patients: one
paper
suggests the potential for higher costs and worse outcomes.

In a more personal way, coconut oil has gone from "Godzilla"
to Whole
Foods staple
. Now it is vegetable oil, the "healthy" alternative
that replaced it in movie theaters, that is a pariah because transfats are bad
and saturated plant fats are good.

Will government respond as quickly as the market to new health research
findings? I don’t know, North Carolina is still dealing with "lunatic"
references in state law.
