I just now read (via Cone*) the LA Times piece on Marxavi Angel Martinez, the Graham library worker facing deportation following her arrest for identity fraud. Nothing new there.

Meanwhile, the Burlington Times-News which, in my opinion, had done a solid job of covering the illegal immigration issue in Alamance, scrutinizes Sheriff Terry Johnson’s earlier statements on 287 (g).

*I’m not exactly sure what commenter Just Corbly means when he says “the primary thing that convinces me that most opposition to immigrants is derived from something other than a desire to enforce the law is the lack of interest in those quarters of devising a simple and efficient way to make people like that unfortunate Alamance mother legal citizens.” If “those quarters” means Alamance County, then it would be pretty difficult for them to devise a way of making illegals citizens, since immigration is a federal issue. Surely Just Corbly knows this.

I’ll remind everyone once again that (right or wrong) McCain is the candidate who attempted to devise a way to make illegals citizens, though there was nothing simple and efficient about it. Obama supported bill.
