Yeah, I know it’s old news, but I’m just now getting around to the City of Winston-Salem’s proposed belt-tightening. I’d heard it reported elsewhere, but somehow I kept missing it over at the Journal.

A couple of things jump out. For starters, development City Manger Lee Garrity says help on development projects might not be forthcoming:

Garrity told city-council members recently that the city should wait on making any big financial commitments to various development projects that are in the wings, at least until the financial picture clears. Depending on how long that takes, it could affect the city’s timetable for taking part in such projects as the Downtown Civic Plaza and the Piedmont Triad Research Park.

What else struck me was Winston’s $173 million budget, while Greensboro, with 30,000 more people, has a $425 million budget. Seemed skewed?
