The University of Delaware has canceled its Cultural Revolution-style re-education program for less than lefty students. President Patrick Harker had this to say:
While I believe that recent press accounts misrepresent the purpose of the residential life program at the University of Delaware, there are questions about its practices that must be addressed and there are reasons for concern that the actual purpose is not being fulfilled. It is not feasible to evaluate these issues without a full and broad-based review.
I have a problem with the press misrepresenting the purpose of the program. First, it wasn’t the press, it was the blogs and FIRE. Second, any criticism was aimed at direct quotes from the programs literature and stated objectives.
Yes, FIRE go this started, but imagine what would NOT have happened had this been 1998. This is a good day.
