Senate Bill 120 would allow state funding of only one school system in each North Carolina county. That has officials at Chapel Hill/Carrboro Schools — one of 14 city districts in the state — worried. The Chapel Hill/Carrboro system is separate from the Orange County district. Thus, the Chapel Hill system has joined a group of city systems that will try to fend off SB 120 by hiring a lobbyist. Cost to the Chapel Hill system: $4,000 per year.
