Hendersonville will be holding an instant runoff election again. The instructions are said to be very simple, but those I saw a couple years ago weren’t. The article in the Times News does not explain how the votes will be counted. I remain suspicious of IRV because the elected officials in Asheville who support changing election rules to their party’s benefit right before elections also supported IRV.
Of all the voting systems I’ve encountered, I think dotocracy reflects the will of the voters best. Talk show host Matt Mittan has been advocating for eliminating ballots and making people write in the names of the people they want in office. I think it would be a good idea to vote for propositions the same way.
