The Governor’s Highway Safety Program checkpoint initiative proved well worth the effort in Watauga County Saturday. 531 vehicles were stopped, and fifteen citations were issued. Four were substance abuse related, and nine constituted counts of driving while poor. The breakdown is as follows:

  • 2 driving while impaired
  • 5 driving without a license
  • 2 driving while license revoked
  • 2 expired registration
  • 2 expired inspection sticker
  • 1 possession of marijuana
  • 1 possession of drug paraphernalia.

Amazingly, nobody was cited for not wearing their government straps. Rumor has it that persons not wearing them can catapult from their windshields and land on small children. Rumor also has it that my living room walls are papered in said citations.
