“Everyone is spreading the rumor that North Carolina is not open for business,” said Rep. Bill Owens, D-Pasquotank. “The fund is empty. This bill means that North Carolina will be open back for business.”
Owens sponsored a bill that would give Gov. Mike Easley another $20 million for the One North Carolina Fund, from which he doles out money at his own discretion to businesses he likes.
That rumor must be spreading like wildfire through businesses nationwide. Only heroic governors equipped with a fat wallet can extinguish the flames, apparently.
