The John Locke Foundation’s recent statewide assessment of North Carolina’s traffic congestion problems generated most of the discussion at today’s GOP media briefing.
Berger touted bills that would address transportation problems by ending highway fund transfers, changing the “equity” formulas for transportation funding, and launching a Good Roads Study Commission.
Republican legislators also noted some other topics of interest:
- The executive committee of the N.C. Conference of District Attorneys has endorsed GOP-backed legislation to end North Carolina’s de facto death penalty moratorium.
- House Minority Leader Paul Stam, R-Wake, hopes the Senate will revive amendments from the House debate about voter registration at one-stop absentee voting sites.
Stam also responded to a question about Senate Bills 760 and 954, which would require North Carolina to join a compact that would force states to assign their presidential electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote nationwide.
