This comes from a Governor’s press release:
“More
than two-thirds of the state is under a National Weather Service heat
advisory or warning as temperatures are expected to hit triple digits
for the next few days.”
So what is the Governor doing?
“Gov.
Mike Easley today ordered state government agencies to set thermostats
up to two degrees higher, between 78 and 80 degrees, during the next
few days in nearly all state buildings as power companies experience
record demand for electricity amid the heat wave. “
According to the press release, he wants to make sure we don’t have any blackouts due to the expected demand for electricity.
If our electricity system is so bad that the government has to
force state employees to reside in ridiculously hot buildings (after
they get inside from the excessive heat), then we have some serious
problems. It begs the question again: Why is the legislature
mandating renewable energy that is high cost and inefficient, instead
of making sure we just get the electricity we need.
We need
reliable electricity so that the governor is lowering the temperature
in state buildings so people don’t have heat strokes as opposed to
increasing the temperature so there are no blackouts–albeit, there
probably will be blackouts–it will be the state employees, not the
electricity.
